Biography
Oscar Alvarez is a Research Scientist I at the University of Texas Arlington Research Institute (UTARI). He maintains and develops physics-based Finite Element simulation software BSAM specializing on the finite-element shapes and shape functions. Oscar licenses and interacts with customers to provide technical assistance specific to BSAM. These customers include the US Air Force, NASA, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, etc. Oscar is also a Ph.D. Mathematics graduate student at University of Texas (UTA). Oscar conducts research for his advisor Dr. Chaoqun Liu in the mathematics department relating to vortex-physics in the field of Fluid Mechanics. Oscar specializes in Liutex (a vortex identification method) and creates software tools to help visualize fluid vortices. Oscar also post-processes/visualizes data in collaboration with organizations such as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) studying tropical cyclones and tornados.
