Biography
Dr. Nicholas Gans joined UTARI as a Principal Research Scientist and the Division Head for UTARI’s Automation & Intelligent Systems Division in January of 2019.
Prior to joining UTARI, Dr. Gans was an Assistant Professor and then Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Texas at Dallas since 2009. He received his PhD in Systems and Entrepreneurial Engineering and his MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering both from The University of Illinois Urbana Champaign in 2005 and 2002 respectively. After his PhD, he held Postdoctoral positions at both the University of Florida and the National Research Council at the Air Force Research Laboratory.
His research interests are in the fields of Robotics and Control Systems. Current research topics include vision-based control and estimation, nonlinear adaptive control, and machine learning. Applications include distributed control for multi-robot teams, autonomous vehicles, human/machine interaction, medical robotics, and more.
