Dr. Xin Liu, Assistant Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department, presented two talks at AIAA SciTech conference in early January.
The first talk is “Analysis of Tow-steered Laminates of Composites Using DATC and Machine Learning Models”. This work is funded by a NASA Phase II STTR program, aiming to develop a design tool in commercial finite element software for advanced tailorable composites.
The second talk is “Multiscale Modeling of Quasi-Static Crushing Behavior of Body-Centered Cubic Lattices Using I-Shape Beams with Reinforced Joints”. This work is to develop a new beam lattice structures with significantly enhanced energy absorption.
Both works were performed in the Smart Multiscale Mechanics Lab (SMML) under the leadership of Dr. Liu. The SMML is within the Institute for Predictive Performance Methodologies (IPPM) at UTARI, focusing on the multiscale modeling of advanced materials and structures.
